What is L-Arginine Malate?

L-arginine malate combines the exercise benefits of arginine with malic acid, a naturally occurring organic compound that plays a crucial role in the body's natural energy producing cycle.

Also known as di-arginine malate or nitrous malate, L-arginine malate has the same benefits as basic L-arginine but offers a more efficient delivery system.

L-arginine malate is a more bioavailable analog of the L-arginine base amino acid with increased absorption, fewer side effects and better taste.

Many athletes consume malic acid combined with Creatine in the form of Dicreatine Malate to increase the delivery of oxygen to muscle cells as they work to improve stamina and endurance.

Malic acid is available as a supplement, either as a stand-alone compound or as part of a complex. One of malic acid’s most significant benefits lies in its ability to stimulate metabolism and increase energy production. This stems from the integral role it plays in a process known as the Krebs cycle - the complex series of biochemical reactions taking place within the body's cells to transform proteins, fat and carbohydrates into water and energy.

The Krebs cycle needs a constant supply of vitamins, enzymes and chemical agents such as malic acid to function properly 24 hours a day. Without it, energy production would be virtually impossible.

L-arginine can be derived from the diet and is necessary for the body to make proteins. It is found in red meat, poultry, fish and dairy products. It can also be synthesized in a laboratory. L-arginine is converted in the body into nitric oxide. Nitric oxide causes blood vessels to open wider for improved blood flow in a process called vasodilation.

Health Benefits of L-Arginine Malate

L-arginine malate is two molecules of the amino acid arginine bonded to one molecule of malic acid. It is beneficial in strengthening the immune system. Arginine is important in the formation of collagen and the building of new bone and tendons.

Arginine malate helps maintain nitrogen balance in the muscle. This can help improve and enhance the production of nitric oxide which, in turn, can help transport oxygen and other nutrients to the working muscle..

A serving size of one level teaspoon is equal to about 2500 milligrams (mg). For a serving size of 5 grams, take 2 level teaspoons.

Potential Side Effects of L-Arginine Malate

L-arginine is safe when taken at suggested serving sizes. Higher quantities of arginine can increase stomach acid. Arginine may affect potassium levels, especially in people with liver disease. People with kidney problems and those who take ACE inhibitors or potassium sparing diuretics should not use supplemental arginine unless they are under medical supervision from a qualified professional. This product is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. WARNING: Do not use if you are taking MAO's, blood pressure or erectile dysfunction medication (such as Viagra.)
