What is L-Arginine L-Pyroglutamate (APG)?

L-arginine L-pyroglutamate is arginine bonded to a pyroglutamate molecule. The combination of the two amino acids increases nitric oxide (NO) production for enhanced blood flow and better delivery of oxygen and nutrients to working muscle.

Arginine (or L-arginine) is a crystalline free-form amino acid found and directly involved in a number of human processes and biochemistry, including muscle metabolism, ammonia detoxification, hormone secretion and immune system support.

It is considered a semi-essential amino acid. Although the body can make its own supply, when the body is under stress supplementation may be required. Arginine supports protein synthesis as it transports and stores nitrogen. It is also needed for physical performance because it is used by the body to produce creatine.

Creatine supplements are popular among body builders and competitive athletes. Creatine supports athletic performance, particularly during high-intensity, short-duration sports like high jumping and weightlifting.

Pyroglutamate is a naturally occurring amino acid that can be derived in nature from vegetables, fruit, dairy products and meat.

Health Benefits of L-Arginine L-Pyroglutamate

L-arginine is necessary to manufacture nitric oxide, a secondary messenger involved in blood flow. Nitric oxide is a chemical substance that ensures blood vessels are dilated to promote healthy blood flow, which is of particular benefit to strength athletes like bodybuilders and weightlifters.

Although it was first isolated in 1886, it was only in 1932 when scientists learned L-arginine is needed to create urea, a waste product necessary for toxic ammonia to be removed from the body.

Researchers discovered that L-arginine is also necessary to manufacture creatine. Many studies have indicated creatine may be useful in exercise tasks, increasing energy levels and speeding up recovery. Arginine helps inhibit creatine breakdown. Arginine is also a precursor of guanido-phosphate and phosphorarginine, two other substances needed in muscles.

PureBulk sells several creatine supplements, including Creatine Monohydrate, Creatine Ester Malate, Creatine Gluconate, Creatine Ethyl Ester HCL and Dicreatine Malate.

L-arginine has been used largely by bodybuilders to improve blood flow to muscle tissue while enhancing creatine storage. Arginine also plays an important role in muscle metabolism and works to transport, store and excrete nitrogen.

Bioavailability, Mixing and Solubility of L-Arginine L-Pyroglutamate

This product dissolves quickly in hot water and somewhat more slowly in cold water. It has a more pleasing taste than L-arginine HCl and L-arginine base powder. When taking L-arginine L-pyroglutamate as a plain powder, mix with a strongly-flavored beverage or citrus juice before drinking.
