What is DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol) Bitartrate?

DMAE bitartrate, short for dimethylaminoethanol and popularly known as deanol, is a naturally occurring antioxidant with two methyl groups. It is chemically similar to choline.

Animal studies indicate that increasing DMAE elevates choline levels in the brain. Choline is associated with the B vitamin category, though technically it’s not officially considered a vitamin. It helps protect the liver from fat accumulation and functions as a precursor molecule for a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Mother's milk has an extremely high concentration of choline.

Benefits of DMAE Bitartrate

DMAE bitartrate boosts the levels of the chemical messengers choline and acetylcholine (ACh). The two neurotransmitters support cognitive function and memory.

Acetylcholine helps conduct nerve impulses in the brain. Choline is converted in the brain to phosphatidylcholine, which protects cell membranes.

DMAE bitartrate supports energy production and may help with faster muscle recovery, helping bodybuilders and other strength athletes working to improve physical performance.

Purity and Concentration of DMAE Bitartrate

This DMAE bitartrate powder contains no fillers, additives or anti-caking agents. It is derived from sucrose fermentation.

Potential Side Effects of DMAE Bitartrate

DMAE is safe at suggested serving sizes. In large amounts DMAE can result in insomnia, headaches and muscle tension. If excitation, restlessness, muscle tension or headache occur, reduce serving sizes or discontinue use. Patients undergoing treatment for Alzheimer's disease, depression or other psychiatric conditions should consult a physician prior to supplementing with DMAE.

Suggested Use of DMAE Bitartrate

As a dietary supplement, take 350 mg (scant 1/8 tsp) twice daily (or as directed by a physician.) Individual uses vary. You can see the full bulk density/volumetric conversion chart for DMAE here. A serving of 1/8 teaspoon is equal to 383 milligrams (mg), so a scant 1/8 teaspoon would be a typical serving size. Do not exceed a total serving amount of 1500 milligrams (1/2 tsp) per day without first consulting a physician.

How should I store it?

You will receive a resealable bag of this powder. Store in a cool, dry area protected from light. Reseal after each use.
