What is Ascorbyl Palmitate?
Ascorbyl palmitate (or Vitamin C Ester) is formed by combining ascorbic acid with palmitic acid. Ascorbic acid is the scientific term for Vitamin C, an antioxidant.Ascorbic acid alone is not fat soluble, meaning it will not dissolve in a fat or oil-based substance. However, ascorbyl palmitate IS fat-soluble and the Vitamin C from ascorbyl palmitate can be stored in cell membranes until the body requires it.
Ascorbyl palmitate acts synergistically with Vitamin E, helping to regenerate the Vitamin E radical on a constant basis.
Benefits of Ascorbyl palmitate
Ascorbyl palmitate (Vitamin C Ester) is a fat-soluble antioxidant. Vitamin C has multiple functions as both a coenzyme and cofactor. Vitamin C is responsible for helping to build and maintain our tissues and strengthen our immune system. The body needs it to synthesize carnitine, which is vital in the transport of energy to mitochondria, and to produce dopamine in the nervous system and adrenal glands.Ascorbic acid is required for collagen synthesis and plays a structural role in bone, cartilage and teeth. It is also essential for the oxidation of the amino acids phenylalanine and tyrosine, and the conversion of folacin to tetrahydrofolic acid.
Vitamin C as an Antioxidant - Vitamin C is one of many antioxidants that block damage caused by free radicals, byproducts of our bodies transforming food into energy. Vitamin C neutralizes potentially harmful reactions in the watery parts of the body, such as blood and fluid both inside and surrounding cells.
Vitamin C and Connective Tissue - As a participant in hydroxylation of proline, Vitamin C is needed for the production of collagen, a protein substance which all fibrous tissue integrity depends on. These fibers are found throughout the body, providing firm but flexible structure. Collagen is the "glue" that strengthens many parts of the body like the muscles and blood vessels. It is needed to develop and maintain healthy teeth, bones, gums, cartilage, vertebrae discs, joint linings, skin and blood vessels. By supporting collagen production, Vitamin C is essential for the healing of wounds and for the repair of these tissues.
Vitamin C and Immune System - Vitamin C may be useful as an immune stimulator and modulator in some circumstances. Vitamin C promotes resistance to infection through the immunologic activity of leukocytes, the production of interferon, and maintaining mucous membranes.

Too much Vitamin C taken during pregnancy can cause problems for the newborn baby. Consult your physician before supplementing with vitamin C if you have the following conditions: diabetes, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, sickle cell disease, iron overload (hemosiderosis or hemochromatosis), history of kidney stones, or kidney failure.Suggested Use:
As a dietary supplement, take 1250 milligrams (mg) one or more times per day with food (or as directed by physician).Using the bulk density chart above, you can see that 1/4 teaspoon is 915 milligrams, and 1/16 teaspoon is 229 milligrams, giving a total of 1141 mgs. To accurately measure 1250 milligrams, we recommend a digital gram scale.
Due to the fact that many of our customers have individual needs, we do not include a “scoop” in your package. For your convenience, PureBulk offers a selection of durable stainless steel measuring spoons for sale.
The amount of Vitamin C from ascorbyl palmitate is 40%. Forty percent of 1250 mgs provides 500 mg Vitamin C. The FDA recommended daily intake (Daily Value) of Vitamin C is at least 60 mg for an adult male. 500 mgs Vitamin C divided by 60 mg gives 833% of the Daily Value for Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin.
Can I take Ascorbyl Palmitate if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Consult your prenatal care professional when using Vitamin C supplements, since infants born to mothers taking high amounts of Vitamin C could develop rebound scurvy (ascorbic acid deficiency disease) due to a sudden drop in Vitamin C levels after birth. This is generally only seen when the mother has been consuming more than 6000 mg of vitamin C. The FDA recommended daily value for pregnant or lactating women is 60 mg per day.Medication interactions
Ascorbyl palmitate may react with mixed amphetamines and blood-thinning medications. What are the health risks of too much?
High intake of ascorbic acid may reduce copper levels in the body. This could be a problem for individuals with an existing copper deficiency or marginal copper stores. People with iron storage diseases such as hemochromatosis should consult a physician since Vitamin C increases iron absorption.Bioavailability, Mixing and Solubility
Ascorbyl palmitate is fat-soluble, so it can be dissolved in oils and fatty substances. Some research indicates that the Vitamin C in ascorbyl palmitate is not as readily absorbed by the body as ascorbic acid.
