What are ALCAR/ALA capsules?
Purebulk's ALCAR/ALA capsules are a blend of Acetyl L-Carnitine and RS-Alpha Lipoic Acid.Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR) is an acetylated form of L-carnitine, derived from the amino acids lysine and methionine. It is naturally produced in the liver and kidneys.
The human body uses acetyl-L-carnitine to create energy. ALCAR achieves this by transporting fatty acids across the mitochondria membrane, allowing oxidation to occur. The highest levels of ALCAR are found in tissues that use fatty acids as their main fuel, namely the skeletal and cardiac muscles.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (RS-ALA) is a fatty acid with powerful antioxidant properties and is also an important mitochondrial component.
ALA may synergize with ALCAR to support exercise performance in two ways. First, glucose transport to muscle may be increased, because exercise is associated with a high degree of oxidative stress. Secondly, ALA and ALCAR may synergize to increase fatty acid utilization and cellular energy production.
ALCAR is superior to normal L-carnitine (or L-Carnitine base) in terms of bioavailability. Because of the attached acetyl group, acetyl-L-carnitine acts as a cognitive enhancer and neuroprotective agent.
ALCAR is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and enter blood circulation where it acts as an antioxidant, protecting cell membranes.
Health Benefits of Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR)
Acetyl-L-Carnitine supports cellular energy production by assisting in the transport of fat to the mitochondria where it is oxidized and converted into ATP, providing chemical energy for the cell. As a highly bioavailable form of L-Carnitine, Acetyl-L-Carnitine helps maintain healthy cellular energy metabolism.Health Benefits of Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)
Alpha Lipoic Acid plays an important role in the Krebs citric acid cycle, the body's main process for turning carbohydrates into energy. ALA neutralizes a wide variety of free radicals circulating through the body, molecules that can damage cell membranes.ALA acts to regulate blood sugar and cholesterol levels, affecting overall well-being. ALA works for bodybuilders and other strength athletes because alpha lipoic acid acts as a metabolic antioxidant and fights free radicals that can slow muscle recovery. ALA enhances the delivery of carbohydrates, creatine and other important nutrients.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALCAR) and Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)
ALCAR and ALA display many impressive properties and have many synergistic effects when combined. The supplements are good nootropics and are frequently blended together in retail products.Purity of ALCAR/ALA
These blended pharmaceutical-grade powders (425 milligrams of ALCAR and 175 milligrams of RS-ALA) contain no fillers, taste additives or anti-caking agents. Gelatin capsular material is from a bovine source, and vegetarian capsular material is derived from cellulose.Suggested Use of ALCAR/ALA
These blended-powder ALCAR/ALA capsules contain 425 milligrams of ALCAR and 175 milligrams of RS-ALA. The suggested serving size is one 600 milligram capsule up to four times a day, depending on individual needs.Potential Side Effects of ALCAR/ALA
ALCAR/ALA is generally safe at suggested serving sizes. In large amounts, adverse side effects such as increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever and diarrhea are possible. Persons with a history of seizures should not use this product. This product is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.References & Further Research
