What is 5-Methyl-7-Methoxy Isoflavone?

5-Methyl-7-Methoxy Isoflavone is a synthetic isoflavone that is derived from Ipriflavone. Ipriflavone is in turn a synthetic derivative of daidzein. Daidzein is one of the isoflavones, or phytoestrogens, that naturally occur in soybeans (others are daidzin, genisten, genistein, glycitin and glycitein).

The process for synthesizing 5-Methyl-7-Methoxy Isoflavone, also known as Methoxyflavone or Methoxy for short, was patented in 1979. The patent expired after the 20-year limit in 1999. Dietary ingredient manufacturers may now produce this substance freely.

Potential Health Benefits of 5-Methyl-7-Methoxy Isoflavone

5-Methyl-7-Methoxy Isoflavone is used mainly by body builders to enhance endurance and weight gain. Little research has been done to substantiate 5-Methyl-7-Methoxy Isoflavone's efficacy for this purpose. More research has been done on its precursor, ipriflavone.

Suggested Use of 5-Methyl-7-Methoxy Isoflavone

The suggested serving size for 5-Methyl-7-Methoxy Isoflavone is 400 milligrams, a rounded 1/4 teaspoon. This amount may be taken once or twice daily with or without food. You can see the full bulk density volumetric chart here.

Potential Side Effects of 5-Methyl-7Methoxy Isoflavone

No known side effects have been reported. As with any substance with the potential for estrogenic activity in the body, caution must be exercised by individuals with estrogen sensitive conditions such as some types of breast cancer.
